BLACK TEARS, BLACK SMILES
In a dark city with dark intentions
One stands out.
Black tears and
Black smiles,
Just another dark, gloomy and depressing day in Rayacre, Cyan. Crime rates were still through the roof and it was harder to go day by day without being stopped on the street to get yelled at by the disgusting scum on the side of the road or robbed. There was always something terrible going on in Rayacre that people started not even leaving home. Everyone was poor here. Barely making a living. All the jobs were in Edgedale and Prylyn but only those who could afford Air Ships got to go up there.
Walking through the streets of Rayacre, there was graffiti all over the buildings on the walls and bridges. There was trash everywhere and cigarettes all over the ground. The smell was enough to kill someone. The air was full of smoke and smelled like trash that had been sitting out and lingering for years. Buildings had broken windows and there was always someone running like they stole something or killed somebody. Thieves and Gunners mostly lived here and used their talents for bad. The only reason anyone would live here is if they couldn't get an airship or if they were mentally ill or something.
As for the case for this particular Black Mage to be, there was no way getting an Air Ship would be possible. The economy was so bad in Rayacre that there were absolutely no job offerings. Stores were robbed so often now that people didn't even want to shop anymore and if they did, it was sending someone else to do it or going first thing in the morning. Onyx Blackheart was her name. The aspiring Black Mage that was stuck in Rayacre. Every single day since she arrived, she wanted to turn around and go back to her family or just run.. escape any way she could. She was stuck there now with no job and barely making it by day by day. She didn't have any friends or someone she could talk to. Being utterly afraid to even make eye contact with anyone around her. It wasn't healthy for a young girl.
Considering the living conditions in Rayacre, she carried herself well. Onyx always walked with her head up and was always clean with her hair styled nicely. Short black hair with some hints of red. She had remarkable golden eyes but her left one was covered by an eye patch. It was an accident when she was sparring but she never talks about it. Her clothes were pressed and clean and she even had her own style.
So what landed her here in Rayacre? She decided that it was time to grow up and be on here own so she moved away from her family in Zareth and came to Cyan. Little did she know that with her income, she'd be stuck in the poor part of town. She did have mentors who stated teaching her magic but the lessons never really stuck.
Onyx was leaving her tiny apartment in the middle of the City. Before she even walked up the street, she was getting tripped over by some guy running with a woman's purse in his hand who looked at her like she was about to do something to stop him. She wasn't. Onyx just sighed and brushed herself off and tucked her hair behind her ear before turning the opposite direction and walked off. Onyx never carried anything with her because it was just a matter of time before she would become a target. Only this time she carried two books that she held close against her chest. She was heading to the one place where there was never any crime. The Library. Then again, no one really went to the library here besides her and a few others who wanted to find an escape. The building sat alone and actually looked like it was taken care of besides the few dead and neglected plants outside around it.
Pushing open the big double doors, Onyx walked in and placed the two books on a counter with a sign overhead that said returns. Without ever saying a word, she walked off to explore. Her golden eye glanced over several books on the shelf before stopping on one that was a few shelves up. Practically climbing up on the book shelf and falling, she reached the book she wanted. It was a book on air ships and sky pirates who formed a guild to take part in hunts, missions, dungeons and earn Gil. There were love interests, fighting and lots of traveling in the story as well. With a soft smile, Onyx walked back to the front of the library and found a comfortable couch in the corner so she could sit alone where she opened the book and began to read.
